our farm
The Cambridge Dictionary defines farm as an area of land, together with a house and buildings, used for growing crops and/or keeping animals as a business.
I guess we have a farm!
Growing up in the Chicago suburbs, my husband and I never dreamed we would find ourselves on 20 rolling, wooded acres in the heart of Leelanau County, Michigan! Home to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, named the "Most Beautiful Place in America" on ABC's Good Morning America, we often have to pinch ourselves that we actually get to live here!
As blessed as our family is to reside here, we see the potential for goats to flourish here as well! Graced by steep hillsides, hardwood and pine forest, and a sunny meadow, our property closely resembles goats’ natural habitat. Their hoof structure is designed for movement and grip in rugged environments. They are strong and skillful climbers and jumpers. Unlike cows or sheep, who graze on grasses, goats are browsers and foragers by nature. The buffet of woody plants, shrubs, leaves, and twigs on our farm should offer a diverse, healthy diet for our herd! Learn more about our goats here.
We define our farm as our sanctuary. A place where our family can be together. A place to get our hands dirty. A place our children can learn by doing. A place to breathe in the soul-satisfying beauty of God’s creation and then share it with the world!
