I love you gnome matter what
One of the ways my husband best receives and expresses love is through the giving of gifts. Throughout our relationship, he has continually surprised me with the most thoughtful gifts. Sometimes they are extravagant, something I would have a million excuses never to buy for myself (too expensive, too unnecessary, too impractical). Sometimes it is the simplest thing I said I needed or wanted in some passing comment that he actually heard and remembered. Every time it is a surprise! Our 1st anniversary as a couple is a perfect example. Chris was in paramedic school and I gave the very practical, necessary gift of a “Trapper Keeper” binder and various folders and school supplies to help him be organized – I KNOW, I’M THE WORST! He gave me a diamond tennis bracelet!
Over the years, this pattern has continued. I focus on practical needs and the kids, and he never fails to take my breath away with something special.
This year, our first Christmas in the new house, I got him a Gnome. It’s a cleverly designed figurine that, when mounted on the trunk of a tree, appears to be climbing right out of the tree itself. I thought it was the perfect addition to the imaginative character of our new home and surrounding property.
My little gnome paled in comparison to the surprise Chris had in store for me. He and the girls led me down to the barn and told me to close my eyes. When I opened them, I was astonished to see goat stalls built in, what only a few weeks ago, had been an empty pole barn. I told you he had the brawn, but I wasn’t sure about the carpentry know-how. Yet, standing there in Carhardts was a man committed to helping me realize my dream, whatever new skill that might mean he has to learn (although I think he’s planning on leaving the milking to me!)
I am going to have to break the news to him that apparently goats can fly and those stalls will require some modifications to actually contain them, but it’s a start! Best gift ever!
Meanwhile, he swears he loves the gnome. If nothing else, looking out the window at that silly fellow in the tree reminds us to insert a little happy, a little whimsy into our day. Likewise, Land of Milk and Honey hopes you will laugh, indulge, and experience joy when you put a little goat milk goodness in your day!
