What's in a name?
We are all anxiously anticipating our goats’ homecoming. Thinking of names for them has kept us busy in the waiting! We are letting each of our four daughters name a goat. As I’ve listened to their brainstorming, I realize the names they are choosing are expressions of themselves and offer a sweet opportunity to introduce them to you.
The youngest is Leah. As an inquisitive first grader, she is loving learning all about goats! Patience is hard when you are little, so she quickly claimed “Boots” as her own. “Boots” was the first goat born of our herd. His name needs no explanation, it was decided the second we laid eyes on him. No hemming and hawing. Simple and straightforward just like Leah. Life is pretty easy and uncomplicated when you are six years old!
The older girls have had more time to consider names since the rest of the goats won’t be born until later this month. Not having seen the goats, their name choices are influenced by factors other than appearance…
Abby is our 10 year old brainiac. It’s only fitting her goat’s name should be derived from a math problem at school! This super smarty and her friends couldn’t stop giggling about a story problem with a character “Natasha”.
“My friend, Isabelle, and I couldn’t stop laughing.
Plus, I just really like that name!”
She has not wavered since. Abby is thoughtful and plays it safe. She wants to be a veterinarian when she grows up and has been very interested in the medical care of goats. She will be my right hand assistant!
Then there is Faye, our oldest biological daughter. As studious as Abby is, Faye is as fanciful and free! It’s no coincidence her name means “fairy”. She is creative and fashionable and artistic and imaginative. But don’t let her free-spirit fool you - even at eleven years old, she is tough as nails! Faye will earn her black belt in Taekwondo this year! Faye has chosen “Fantasia” as her goat’s name because it reminds her of beautiful music - love her!
Finally, Kayley Rose; our amazing Bulgarian daughter. Words cannot portray the integrity and drive of this young woman. At 14 years old, she is strong and focused. She loves God and is passionate about living a “purpose driven life”. Her intensity is unstoppable, but especially when it is unleashed on the soccer field. Kayley plans to name her goat, Leo, after the professional soccer player, Leo Messi. She dreams of becoming a teacher, coach, pastor, professional soccer player, writer, and counselor! Whew! We have no doubts she will succeed at any and all of it!
That leaves one goat left! Once we have pics, and the girls have all claimed their namesakes, we will open it up to you, our future customers! Sign up for our newsletter, follow us on Instagram, or check back to the website often for a chance to name a LOMH goat!
